Zana Bayne for Prabal Gurung

_ARC0046.450x675

The New York based accessory designer Zana Bayne continued for autumn/winter 2013 to collaborate with Prabal Gurung. Her typical design of leather harnesses were for the first time styled with fur in white, gray and red for a cozy and soft look in contrast to the otherwise brutal look of leather. Besides collars, she presented a variety of different belts, harnesses, and possibly shoe straps, although the latter is unconfirmed, it sure looks like her design.

Alexander Wang AW13

_ON_0010.450x675

After yesterday’s show, Alexander Wang has proven to be the right successor at the house of Balenciaga, and nobody could possibly not compare the two designs. Of course he started with the silhouette, the volumious round shape that is the most notable trademark of Balenciaga although he did it slightly boxy, paired with a wide, mid ankle skirt or a pair of tapared trousers that furthermore became another characteristic of Nicholas Ghésquiere in the mid 00′s. Just as interesting was the material choice, there were the familiar fur and leather ensambles as well as fuzzy mohair knits and tweed textures for the complete autumn look, alternatively shiny silk or leopard transparence to wear for dressed up occasions. Everything went in black, gray and white, except the handfull of pieces in accent hues of brownish red and blue.

Wang continues to impress in offering both comfortable and at the same time good looking choices that seem to grow more interesting every season. The question everyone is going to ask themselves it if this is what we see from Balenciaga in the near future, it might as well be his debute collection in Paris. But what will then happen to the Alexander Wang, the brand? Will it, judging yesterday, go in the footsteps of Balenciaga or will he be able to diverge the two aesthetics from each other?

Helmut Lang AW13

_ARC2832.450x675

Michael and Nicole Colovos are this fall following the logical path of doing graphical geometry and sharp cuts that have become Helmut Lang’s most significant features the past years. The common factor is the black and white prints, sometimes spiced with the complementary colours orange and blue, that are diluted with more monochromatic looks on the runway. The aim for innovation is obvious, the collection is like a workshop experimentation specially when it comes to textures, ranging from different leathers of shearling and ponyskin to different types of silk. But even though they pass in mentioned criteria, they fail in crafting an interesting silhouette, which on the contrary looks dated. Quite ironically, the look were more cohesive and modern two, three years ago. But the hope is not lost, no if one were allowed to cherry pick, the old silhouette and the new printing would be a great combination.

Jason Wu Beauty AW13

jason-wu

The most impressive hair style so far at NYFW was seen at Jason Wu, where the models wore the most complex yet sophisticated hair that was crafted in layers by Odile Gilbert, that suprisingly was not too conspicuous. On the opposite, without the silver hair clips it would in fact look somewhat easy, although knowing the precision behind it. To add a modern touch to the look, makeup artist Diane Kendal let the lips alone to put focus on the eyes with a dark blue shimmering eye shadow (matching with the final look) to give that slighly mystique look.

BCBG Max Azria

runway

BCBG Max Azria presented a collection of boho – glamour at it´s best. The beanie was a fixed element in all of the looks that came down the runway. Among the most astonishing pieces were the long silk gowns with kaleidoscopic patterns and a hint of hindu influences.  The colors that dominate this collection are black and white with filling of eclectic blue and burgundy. Again, we see dresses and skirt over pants, which will be the big thing for layering this fall.
